Jean Monnet Activities are designed to promote excellence in teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide. The activities also foster the dialogue between the academic world and policy-makers, in particular with the aim of enhancing governance of EU policies.

European Union studies comprise the study of Europe in its entirety with particular emphasis on the European integration process in both its internal and external aspects. The discipline also covers the role of the EU in a globalised world and in promoting an active European citizenship and dialogue between people and cultures.

The TIE Unesco Chair supports EUEDU Jean Monnet Module headed by Dr. Miri Yemini (2016 – 2019)

The rationale for the EDUEU module lies in the increasing importance of internationalization in education in general and the processes of transformation that the European systems of education are undergoing in particular. With the Bologna Process affecting higher education system way beyond the 47 EU and partner countries, and the processes of introducing European Citizenship Education raising new discourses among policy-makers, school leaders and teachers around the world, it is important to address those processes within programmes aimed at fostering and training school leadership, such as the leading Israeli programme of M.A. for Educational Policy and Administration at Tel Aviv University. Currently, there is no reference to EU studies within the courses offered at the School of Education at Tel Aviv University, nor in other higher education institutions (universities and colleges) in Israel which are responsible for teachers’ education. EU studies are also rare in general within the faculties of Education in the world, which is one of the novelties of the module. Additionally, this will be the first time an Israeli School of Education will participate in a Jean Monnet Module and the first time Tel Aviv University will take part in such a module as well. The programme will enable Israeli graduate education students to gain first-hand exposure to EU dimensions of education. Finally, professional organisations such as the Teachers' Association and Ministry of Education will be involved in the Jean Monnet Action for the first time in Israel, including participation in the workshops and the conference, annual high-profile update meetings, and other benefits.

The main aim of the EDUEU module is to introduce the discourse on European dimensions of education into the teaching and research activities at the School of Education at Tel Aviv University in particular and within the education system in Israel in general.

Wider objectives of the EDUEU module are:

-To increase the knowledge and understanding of education students and the general public regarding European dimensions of education at school and higher education levels with a particular focus on the Bologna process and European Citizenship Education.

-To foster lifelong learning, incorporate new technologies in teaching and learning, and facilitate open access to teaching and learning resources as  key factors in the Israeli education system by providing the community an opportunity to participate in the education activities regarding European dimensions in education.

Specific objectives of the E-Internationalization module are:

-To develop and implement two new graduate courses on European dimensions in education (one of which will be produced in MOOC format).

-To develop and implement workshops for undergraduate students and an external audience regarding European dimensions of education and potential influences of the EU on the Israeli education system.

-To develop and sustain a website portal with tools and networking capabilities for all stakeholders of EDUEU module.

-To develop and distribute EDUEU e-newsletters with content and tools relevant to the module’s objectives.

-To develop and implement a national conference on Europe’s role in internationalization of education.

-To perform large scale conceptual review on European Citizenship Education as part of EDUEU research activities.

-To recruit substantial external stakeholders (academics through Advisory Board, NGOs, SMEs, governmental organization) to sustain the EDUEU module after the end of the grant funding period.
